TLDR: The government of Los Angeles in the United States has mandated that vaccination will be compulsory for all children above 12 years old who attend public schools. Unvaccinated students would not be allowed on campus.
More thoughts: There are many ways of approaching the issue of Covid-19 vaccination. The bulk of discussions revolve around the health implications. However, this article highlights one of the legal angles, which is whether and how to make vaccination compulsory by law.
In Singapore, Covid-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged but is currently not compulsory for any group of people. Individuals both in schools and workplaces may still choose whether or not to be vaccinated. Unlike in Los Angeles, you and your classmates can still attend school even if you are not vaccinated. Certain companies whose workers may work in higher-risk settings may also impose a vaccination requirement, but that is considered a company rule or policy rather than law.
There are however other vaccines that are mandatory for all under Singapore law. In particular, children must have their shots for diphtheria and measles before they turn 2 years old.
