Teen in Singapore admits to sending death threats to Premier League footballer Neal Maupay – CNA (www.channelnewsasia.com) (2 June 2021)

TLDR version: A junior college student sent deaths threats to Premier League footballer Neal Maupay and his family via Instagram after watching a match.

Even though the footballer was in England and the teen was in Singapore, the threats caused enough fear to the footballer that he had reported it to the Premier League, which then informed the Singapore authorities.

The now 19-year-old pleaded guilty to charges under the Protection from Harassment Act and will be sentenced after the judge receives reports on his suitability for probation and reformation training.

More thoughts: Under the Protection from Harassment Act, people in Singapore who harass others can be fined or imprisoned, even if their victims are in other countries.

However, the Probation of Offenders Act offers an alternative penalty to certain offenders who may be deemed to be suitable for probation instead (usually based on criteria such as type of offence, age and previous records etc).
